Figueroa, also known as Andiroba or Crabwood, is a tree native to Brazil primarily desired for its durability and medicinal uses. A member of the Mahogany family, its honeyed golden color and even grain pattern make it desirable for use in furniture, nautical decking and cabinetry. The variety we employ in our iPhone 4/4S backs is quartersawn, producing a timber that has slightly wavy darker vertical grain and light diagonal banding found throughout. After sanding and finishing, Figueroa is smooth with light apparent grain, offering a surface that will not fingerprint while still offering superior durability and feel.
